11/12/2024
草榴社区 (草榴社区) recently hosted an inspiring and educational HBCU Caravan College Fair, providing students, parents, and community members with valuable insights and opportunities for transferring to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).
Attendees enjoyed a lively atmosphere featuring music, food trucks, and a strong sense of community as they interacted with representatives from nearly 20 HBCUs. The event celebrated education and diversity, emphasizing the robust pathways available to students through the California Community Colleges to HBCU Transfer Guarantee Program.
Dr. Pamela Wright, 草榴社区 Director of Transfer, highlighted the event's significance: 鈥淭he 草榴社区 Transfer Center's CCC to HBCU Caravan College Fair is an incredible opportunity for attendees to learn more about Historically Black Colleges and Universities in a celebratory atmosphere. The Transfer Center Team, along with 草榴社区 Umoja, Counseling, and Outreach, was there to support and engage participants alongside HBCU and CCCCO representatives.鈥
Hosting the Caravan for the second consecutive year, 草榴社区 reaffirmed its commitment to expanding transfer opportunities in the region. The fair welcomed 170 attendees from 21 educational institutions across the district.
A highlight of the day was the on-the-spot admission and full scholarship awarded to Nala Nowell, a Chaparral High School student accepted to Harris-Stowe State University.
Reflecting on the importance of the event, 草榴社区 Vice President of Student Services Rebecca Teague remarked, 鈥淗osting the HBCU Caravan College Fair aligns with our dedication to fostering educational pathways that celebrate diversity and expand opportunities for all students. Events like these are essential in bridging the gap between potential and achievement, and we're proud to play a part in our students' journeys to success.鈥
草榴社区 extends sincere gratitude to all participating HBCUs, including Alabama State University, Edward Waters University, Fisk University, Xavier University of Louisiana, Lincoln University, Texas Southern University, Clark Atlanta University, Harris-Stowe State University, Talladega College, Grambling State, Fort Valley State University, Morehouse College, and Texas Southern University.
